The cyclone inlet was moving under normal operating pressures resulting in poor density separation. It was found that a poorly designed transition pierce was allowing the inlet to move.

To solve this issue HIC Services designed, built, and installed a new concentric transition piece.

The new design prevented movement and maintained proper alignment to the inlet delivering improved throughput.

The modification has been in place for eight years and the cyclone has not seen a repeat of the original failure.

The change has resulted in increased density separation, higher operation time and a decrease in operating costs.
